Admissions Procedure

Entrance Requirements

The primary requirement for admission is willingness to learn.

The Interview

The first step is to phone the main office for a free interview with the director. She will explore the student's math concerns and explain how our program works. If it is decided to go forward together, she and the student will try to quantify the student's goal.

Goals

To secure our money-back guarantee, the student and director create a quantifiable goal, a time frame for achievement and a method of documenting its accomplishment. Examples of quantifiable goals are:

• I want to "test out" of a math class at my college or high school.
• I want to pass the AP Calculus exam.
• I want to pass a promotion exam at work.

Sometimes the goal can't be quantified, such as "I want to feel comfortable with math", or "I just want to understand math", or "I want to stop being so bored in class". in which case the guarantee can't be put into place.

Tuition

Private Instruction @ two hourly meetings per week

• Option 1
  Monthly rate
  A flat fee of $795 per month, in advance of service. for two one-hour lessons per week . There are about nine lessons in the average month. The fee is payable in advance, and no alterations to the fee are made because of legal holidays, student vacation or student illness. There is no expectation that such missed lessons are to be made up (though if it is possible to reschedule the lesson within one week of the absence, we usually do so). In case of catastrophic circumstances, every effort is made to reschedule. Lessons missed by the instructor will be either refunded or rescheduled. There is no charge during Abelian decreed vacations.
• Option 2
  Hourly Rate
  $120 per hour, payable on receipt of service. No charge if appointment is cancelled at least 24 hours in advance.

Private Instruction @ one hourly meeting per week

After a student is doing well in math the student often wants to continue once a week anyway, to maintain the gains. The fee for that is $475 per month.

Summer Courses & PDQ Courses

Payment Policies

Tuition

A non-refundable deposit of $300 is required to hold a place in an up-coming class or program. This amount is applied to the tuition. The balance is due on the first day of class.

Payments

Payment is due, in advance, on the first of each month for private instruction.

Late Payments

We regret, but it has become necessary : if payment is not received by the 1st of the month a $25 penalty will be imposed, and interest at 1.5% per month will be charged on the outstanding balance.

Holidays & Vacations

We observe July 4th and Thanksgiving.  We take a Winter Break and a Spring Break.  There are no charges during those times.

Behavior

Any student who is asked to leave the program because of unacceptable behavior will forfeit all tuition.

Refunds

Dropping a Course

It sometimes happens that a student will elect not to complete a course. In that event the tuition is refunded according to the following schedule:

• Drop by one week before class begins:  full refund
• Drop before the second class meeting begins: 80% refund

Textbooks

Textbooks are purchased by the student. Texts are available at a number of internet sites, or can be purchased through us if we have copies on hand.
