Math Therapy-- a mini overview
We work with children who have fallen off the math wagon and believe they can't get back on. Our task is to change that belief.
Math anxiety takes many forms-- from paralyzing fear to numb resignation. While mindful of the symptoms, we focus on the cause, which is almost always lack of understanding. When understanding is coupled with with success, healing begins.
But for healing to progress, there is another key issue: Typically, the student has decided, often at an unconscious level, that there is no point in actually thinking about math, because it just doesn't do any good.
The pivotal corner is turned when the student changes his or her mind about that!
The rest is just plain fun.
